Dinner Party

Preparations are well underway, but I had to adjust a few things on the menu. One of my dogs got very sick on Saturday and it altered my prep schedule. So I made the Feijoada as I had planned, but I did not have the time to make the chocolate dessert, which solved my dilemma about which desserts to make. Also, for the hour d'oeuvre's, I had to nix the Sardella, for the same reason. I will get some nice marinated olives from my local Grocery Store, and serve that along with the Cheese Bread and some Cashew Nuts.

I made the passion fruit mousse yesterday evening and it came out really nice, if I say so myself. I used Creme Fraiche instead of Creme de Leche, because I could not find the latter. I was not sure how that was going to affect the final product, but it came out nice and thick. So I might just use Creme Fraiche from now on because it is more widely available around here than Creme de Leche.

As a very good friend of mine suggested that I had something "chocolaty" anyway, I bought some nice organic caramel truffles. It is kind of cheating, but that is ok.

Today I will just cook the items that need to be cooked last minute: the rice, the farofa, the greens and the oranges. I might not fry the Yucca, we'll see how the day goes.

It is raining for almost a week straight now, and it is very gloomy and cold. So it is a nice day for a hearty meal, some good wine, a nice cozy fire and spending time with friends.

  1. Yes, passion fruit is one of my favourites too, especially for sorbets.
Sorry it took me so long to get to your blog, Alexandra, but I'll certainly keep an eye on it from now on !
